What to expect, what you’ll learn, and the external courses we recommend.
Starting a Testel franchise doesn’t require a trade license, an electrical qualification(of course, licensed electricians will be able to provide more services), or years of industry experience. In fact, one of the biggest advantages of joining Testel is that the entry pathway is designed to be accessible for everyday people—career changers, new starters or anyone looking to build a stable business in a growing compliance industry.
Here’s a clear breakdown of the training you’ll complete on your way to becoming a Testel franchise partner.
No Formal Qualifications? No Problem. Most of the services Testel provides—such as test and tag, RCD testing, emergency lighting checks and microwave testing—do not require you to be a licensed electrician.
This means you can enter the industry without prior technical certification.
Testel has built a training pathway that gives new partners everything they need from the ground up.
Every new partner begins with Testel’s comprehensive internal training program. This hands-on course runs between 2 and 5 days, depending on your experience and confidence level.
What the internal training covers
This foundational training is delivered directly by Testel and ensures you can perform services safely, confidently and to national compliance standards from day one.
Alongside Testel’s internal program, every new franchise partner is required to complete a nationally recognised external test and tag training course. This ensures you meet industry-accepted standards and provides additional credibility when working with commercial clients.
Testel does not mandate a specific provider, but we recommend choosing from the most established RTOs in Australia.
Below are three reputable RTOs commonly used by new franchise partners:
Any of these courses will meet the external requirement needed to operate as a Testel franchise partner.
Training for Licensed Electricians
If you’re already a qualified electrician, additional franchise service opportunities may be available. Your existing skills may allow you to expand your service portfolio or take on a broader range of compliance tasks, subject to licensing requirements in your state.
Becoming a Testel franchise partner isn’t about having the right qualifications—it’s about the right attitude, the willingness to learn, and the desire to build a reliable, community-focused business.
With Testel’s internal training, nationally recognised external courses, and ongoing support from an established national network, you’ll have everything you need to step confidently into the electrical safety compliance industry.
